Power window switch replacement

What is the power window switch?
A power window switch is a device that is physically operated to move a window up or down.  They are usually found on the door handrail or center console and are usually a molded plastic assembly.

Power window switch A switch/button that can be toyed or pressed to activate the power window function.  They are electronic devices that can be connected directly to the car's wires or via a control module.

There are several variations on how circuits work.  When a system is activated, it transfers power to the window motor, which then turns in one direction or the other depending on whether the window is open or closed.

When the switch on the door module is activated, the other system turns off a relay.  This will send a message to the control module to activate the window motor.  This type of system is more likely on vehicles where there are multiple operations on one module/switch.  Window master switches can also have other features such as mirrors and door lock controls included.

If you've been around long enough to know what it means to work on a hand-cranked window reel, you'll appreciate just how incredible the electric Windows are...  At least until they stop working.  When this happens, there is no way to open or lower the window without pulling the door open, or an action that could cause the window actuator to be damaged.  You can also park in a safe place, or avoid dampness if the Windows are stuck underneath.

There are many reasons why electric Windows don't work.  This could be due to blown fuses, broken cables, damaged tracks, defective actuators or faulty window switches.  It's best to get a professional to diagnose the trouble.

If someone suggests you have a broken power window switch that needs to be replaced, this will cost about $60 to $350, depending on the switch required.
Usually, it is the master switch of the drive that fails, as it is the most commonly used.  The main switch is usually a larger component with switches/buttons to activate all Windows of the vehicle.
